10/12/2023 0 Comments Commodore 64 retroarchI even did fresh installs of the latest builds of both the 64-bit & 32-bit versions of Retroarch. Yeah, for whatever reason, I just get a black screen (the game audio works, however) when I load that colodore external palette though all the other palettes work. I'm still rather new to all this.Ī palette for PAL (VICE) that looks like Sony pepto-NTSC? It's stretched but not terribly stretched. NTSC in my config, here's a post I recently made over on Lemon with screen shots and detailed info. Regarding the slightly off-kilter aspect ratio on PAL vs. With the Sony pepto NTSC palette on PAL it looks okay but there sure is room for improvement. Using the latest cores with the latest official Retroarch, btw. The default is libretro: VICEX64 which is preferred due to better configuration via EmulationStation and. I imagine it might be since the VICE cores are relatively new. There are five emulators included for the C64 group. But it shouldn't look stretched though.Īlas, I just tried running the colodore palette in VICE 圆4 with both PAL & NTSC and all I get is a black screen. PAL has more TV lines hence the higher resolution. Haven't checked it yet, since i always use PAL. I wrote something here a few days ago, with a screenshot comparsion. I'm going to keep playing with this but am impressed. It seems to have all the options WinVice has but no built-in ML monitor. WinVice + ReShade was unplayable on a lower spec laptop but Retroarch plays smoothly on that same unit. This is the most authentic look, which looks very close to everything i've connected my PAL C64. It has built-in shaders for its Vice core and uses less CPU/GPU than ReShade. He fixed this "issue" with the newer Colodore palette some time back. If I could just get PAL working with the same color saturation as Sony NTSC this would be the prefect C64 emulation experience for my needs.Īlso, though both PAL and NTSC are in the same aspect ratio on my config, PAL seems slightly stretched from side to side. Reds aren't really reds in PAL but kind of a bright reddish-brown. However, I've had success with using the Sony palette for PAL in RetroArch which improves the color saturation A LOT but it's still not as bright and color-vibrant as the Sony palette in NTSC. Speaking of external color palettes for VICE 圆4, is there anything that's truly comparable to the Sony NTSC pepto palette for PAL? That's one other thing I'm not crazy about in c64 emulation - the PAL color palette looks very dull and washed out compared to Sony NTSC. I asked for external color palettes a few month ago. But i avoid this via EasyFlash game versions/ game compilatations. At the moment only "True Drive" emualation works (original loading times). The Commodore 64 is an 8 Bit personal computer introduced in 1982 by Commodore International. Mostly i miss the fast floppy load via virtual device traps. But lacks a lot of features from the standalone version. It tends to do a good job of mapping your gamepad’s controls up with specific cores too.The Vice Core works pretty good. If you have a gamepad set up with Windows (and you really should), Retroarch should detect it automatically. You’re better off finding standalone emulators for those consoles. The C64 screen comes up but the keyboard is not properly working What setting do I need to change to be able to type normally in the C64 emulator The keys appear to be bound to the Retroarch menu settings rather than being able to type in the emulators screen. If you’re wondering where the cores for hit consoles like the Playstation 2 and GameCube are, the PS2 one is unavailable in Retroarch, while the GameCube one isn’t particularly stable. Just learned about Retroarch and installed the Vice C64 core. N64: Mupen64 (performance), ParaLLEl (accuracy).r/RetroArch StarCraft - Brood War (1998) on Windows 95. Sega Master System/Genesis/CD: Genesis Plus GX Commodore 64 requires more than just populating the folders with ROMs, there is no c64 folder with a standard image. To download cores for your chosen platform - be it N64 or Commodore 64 - head over to the far left icon (Main Menu) in Retroarch, select Load Core > Download Core then select the ones you want.įor reference, here are the cores we think work best for each major platform, taking into account performance and accuracy (there are plenty of other platforms you can get cores for - these are just the biggies).
